Auto Insurance In Frisco TX: 8 Types You Should Know About

Auto insurance Frisco TXWhen you’re shopping for auto insurance in Frisco TX, you’re likely going to encounter insurance terminology that you may not understand.  This is especially true if you’re a first-time car owner and you don’t know what type of insurance you should purchase.   Eight types of insurance you’re likely to encounter are:

1.  Liability Insurance.  Liability insurance covers the cost of repairing property damaged by your vehicle, provided it happened as the result of a covered accident and the fault is yours.  Liability insurance also pays for medical bills resulting from injuries you inflict on others in an accident.  In most states you are required by law to purchase a set minimum amount.

2.  Collision Coverage.  In the event of a covered accident, collision coverage pays for repairs to your vehicle.  If it’s a total loss, collision coverage will pay the total value of your car.  This coverage is especially important if you have a newer car or an expensive one.  It may not be worth the cost of monthly premiums to insurance an older car.  If you have a vehicle that has a lien on it, collision coverage is required.

3.  Comprehensive Coverage.  This type of auto insurance in Frisco TX covers your vehicle in the event it is damaged through something other than an accident.  Fire, vandalism, hail, falling objects and theft are examples of events that would be paid for by comprehensive coverage.  As with collision coverage, if there is a lien on your vehicle, comprehensive coverage is required.

4.  Medical Payments Coverage.  This covers the cost of medical and funeral expenses, resulting from an accident, for you and your passengers, regardless of fault.

5.  Personal Injury Protection.  PIP pays what Medical Payments Coverage pays for you; but in addition, it also covers 80 percent of lost income and the cost of hiring a caregiver for an injured person.  This will also take effect regardless of fault.

6.  Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Protection.  This protection covers your expense should you have an accident with an uninsured driver, a driver with inadequate insurance or a hit-and-run driver.  There are two types of this insurance – one that covers property damage and one that covers bodily injury.  Your insurance company must offer this protection to you and you must reject it in writing if you don’t want it.

7.  Towing and Labor Coverage.  This pays for towing if your car can’t be driven and also pays for the labor involved in having a tire changed or the battery jump-started.

8.  Rental Reimbursement Coverage.  This coverage is for the daily cost of a rental car while your car is being repaired after a covered accident.

There are additional types of auto insurance in Frisco TX that you can purchase to cover other circumstances; however, the above 8 represent what is offered in the Texas Personal Automobile Policy, a standardized policy form approved by the Texas Department of Insurance.  For more information on purchasing auto or any other type of insurance, call the Anthony Blackmon Agency at (469) 291-9006.  You can also visit to start your quote.
